The water is so clear that you can see the sandy bottom even when it is quite deep. Colourful fish dart around the coral close to shore, and it is a favourite spot for snorkelling. Children often spend hours in the shallows catching tiny waves with their hands.
Negril sits on the far west end of Jamaica, which means it has some of the best sunsets in the country. The sky turns every shade of orange, pink and purple as the sun drops into the sea - locals and visitors gather on the beach to watch it together every evening.
Tall coconut palms lean over the sand, and vendors walk the beach selling fresh coconut water - they chop the top off right in front of you and hand it over with a straw. It is perfectly chilled by the breeze and the shade of the palm.
The beach is split into two sections by a rocky headland called Negril Point, where a lighthouse stands. The reef just offshore protects the water, keeping it calm enough for small children and strong swimmers alike.
